Abstract

The government is building the Makassar - Parepare Railway which is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN), one of the areas affected is Soppeng Riaja District, Barru Regency. This study aims to understand the changes in social changes that occur in the people of Soppeng Riaja Subdistrict, Barru Regency due to the construction of the Makassar - Parepare railway, understand the impact of social changes on the people of Soppeng Riaja District, and understand the function of families for children with the presence of the railway construction line. fire. This research uses qualitative methods with data observation techniques, interviews, and documentation. This research is focused on the Kiru-Kiru and Ajakkang villages, which are the areas affected by the construction of the railway. The qualitative data obtained were then processed with an interactive model, namely data, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the changes in social forms that occur because the government is the initiator of development, while the social changes that occur are like the resulting floods. The impact of the social changes that occurred in the community of Soppeng Riaja Subdistrict due to the construction of the Makassar - Parepare railway line is grouped into positive impacts and negative impacts. The positive impacts include the welfare of the affected communities as a result of obtaining large compensation money due to the relocation of their homes and land, opening up new jobs for the community, and improving facilities in rural areas. Meanwhile, the negative impacts that arise include diminishing social interactions, the conversion of residential land and rice fields to development locations, reduced rice production, and social conflicts in the community related to the removal of the Kiru-Kiru TPU for development. The family's function of adapting to children with the presence of the Makassar - Parepare railway development route has generally been implemented well. This family function is carried out through socialization and educational functions.
