Abstract

Suma Budhaya is a modern marawis music group with a uniqueness in its musical work as found in “Pantun Pitutur” song. This group delivers educational values applied by social interaction in their music. The problem of this research is how the musical aspects are manifested in the composition of “Pantun Pitutur” song in Suma Budhaya group and how the educational values are applied through social interaction process in the music of “Pantun Pitutur” song in Suma Budhaya group show. This research aims to analyze the musical aspects manifested in the composition of “Pantun Pitutur” song and educational values applied by social interaction process in the music of “Pantun Pitutur” song in Suma Budhaya group show. The research method used qualitative method with interdisciplinary approaches including musicology, sociology, and science education. The data was collected using observation, interview, and document study technique. The data analysis used data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The data validation of this research used triangulation, sources of data, and theories. The results of the research showed that the musical aspects manifested in the composition of “Pantun Pitutur” song were rhythm, melody, and harmony aspect. Rhythm aspect was from basic samba and funk groove on drum instrument, development of mincid pattern on kendang jaipong, and development of zapin pattern on rebana. Melody aspect was found in the use of Jawa pelog nem pentatonic scale which was converted to diatonic scale 3(mi)-4(fa)-5(sol)-7(si)- 1(do) where do=Bes and aligned the tone frequency. Harmony aspect was from Bes-Cm-Dm-Es-F chord. In the music of “Pantun Pitutur” song, there was an interaction process among the fellow musicians, between the musicians and the group, and the interaction of Suma Budhaya group and their audiences. The interaction process applied educational values including religious, cooperation, pluralist, and responsibility value. This research is suggested to be used as a reference for art reviewers, educators and society related to musical aspects and social interaction process as well as educational values.
