Abstract

Enrichment books are books that have a function as a complement to textbooks. In addition, the enrichment book contains certain material that is discussed in depth so that students gain deeper knowledge. Therefore, enrichment books have an important role in the learning process. It takes a book that is interesting and discusses certain material in depth. Enrichment book writing explanatory text is needed in developing critical, creative, communicative and collaborative thinking in accordance with 21st century competencies. The formulation of the problem in this study is how the needs, characteristics, profile of enrichment books, and acceptance of enrichment books in writing essay text with 21st century competencies? The purpose of this study was to analyze the need for enrichment book development, to analyze the characteristics of book development, to analyze the acceptance and profile of enrichment books, and to analyze the results of the acceptance of enrichment books for writing competency enrichment in writing explanatory text with 21st century learning for high school students. The research method used was the research and development method of Research and Development (R & D). The steps used are (1) information gathering, (2) prototype design, (3) design validation, (4) design revision, (5) prototype testing, (6) prototype revision. The research data sources were data sources for needs analysis, validation test data sources, and acceptance test data sources. The subjects of this study were teachers and high school and MA students to obtain data on needs and expert lecturers in the field of development and language development to obtain product validation data. The data collection techniques used were structured interview techniques, expert validation test techniques, and product revisions. The data collected were then analyzed and grouped into two groups of data, qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results of the research obtained were empaths, namely (1) analysis of the needs of students and teachers which were grouped based on question aspects, aspects of the need for writing explanatory text containing 21st century competencies. Material or content, 21st century competency content, presentation, language and readability, and graphics. (2) the characteristics of the development of enrichment books consist of development principles in material aspects including completeness principles, conformity principles, and 21st century competency content principles, development in presentation aspects including sequential principles and novelty principles, development in linguistic and legibility aspects including the principle of convenience. , the principle of conformity, and the principle of standardization, the development of the graphic aspect includes the principle of conformity, the principle of attractiveness, and the principle of consistency, (3) the profile of an enrichment book writing explanatory text containing 21st century x competencies for high school students entitled "Writing Competency-Contained Explanatory Text 21st century ”, according to the input and suggestions of validator experts used as a revision of the enrichment book profile including the use of color combinations on the cover, content, use of language, examples of explanatory text with 21st century competencies resulting from the initial writing process, and (4) acceptance of the enrichment book can be obtained Identification becomes a number of things, namely the enrichment book developed which is developed as a companion book to the main book or text book published by the Ministry of Education and Culture so that it can enrich students' insights, and the integration of 21st Century competency content can be used as suggestions in learning development. Based on the results of the research, the enrichment book writing explanatory text containing 21st century competencies for high school students is suitable to be used as a companion book and reference in learning. The contents of 21st century competencies integrated in learning to write explanatory texts can develop critical, creative, communicative, and collaborative thinking. The suggestion from this research is that students should use books enriching explanatory text writing skills, then educators should also instill 21st century competence with four skills, namely critical thinking, creative, collaborative, and communicative. Other researchers can also undertake further research to assess 21st century skills in learning
