Abstract

Learning to identify information in explanatory text requires creativity in its implementation. Through identifying information, student can obtain information in reading. In addition, knowledge about identifying information in explanatory texte is also important in learning to read explanatory text. Students must think critically to find information and understanding of the structure, content, and language of the explanatory text. One of the things that affect learning to identify information in explanatory text is the reading intensity of student. Therefore, a suitable or the most effective learning method is needed. The learning method chosen was the SQ3R method and the P2R method. The problems in this study are (1) how the effectiveness of learning identifies information in explanatory text using the SQ3R method based on the reading intensity of class XI Madrasah Aliyah students; (2) how the effectiveness of learning identifies information in explanatory text with P2R method based on reading intensity of class XI Madrasah Aliyah students; (3) how is the difference in the effectiveness of learning to identify information in explanatory text with the SQ3R and P2R method based on the reading intensity of class XI Madrasah Aliyah students. The method used in this study was an experimental research design with a quasi experimental factorial. The sample of this study were students of class XI MAN 2 Kudus and XI MAN 1 Kudus. The collection of test data through learning to identify explanatory text information and reading intensity test to determine high or low reading intensity. Non-test data collection through observation and photo documentation. The results of this study were (1) the SQ3R learning method was effective in identifying information in explanatory text for class XI students of Madrasah Aliyah with an increase of 12.23, from an average of 66.51 to 78.74. This is evidenced by the sign value=0.000<0.05, which means that there is a significant difference in the learning outcomes of the experimental group pretest posttest which used the SQ3R learning method. (2) The P2R method is effective in learning to identify explanatory text information in class XI students of Madrasah Aliyah with an increase of 9.9, from an average of 64.73 to 74.63. This is evidenced by the value of the sign=0.000<0.05, which means that there is a significant difference in the learning outcomes of the control group pretest posttest using the P2R method. (3) The ability to identify information in explanatory text to students with high reading intensity who are treated with the SQ3R method is viii better, namely achieving an average value of 82.22 than the ability to identify information in explanatory text to students with high reading intensity who are treated with P2R method, which reaches an average of 77.33. This is evidenced by the sign value=0.000<0.05, which means that there is a significant difference in learning outcomes in the high group between the SQ3R method and the P2R method. Meanwhile, the ability to identify information in explanatory text to students with low reading intensity treated with the SQ3R method was better, namely achieving an average value of 67 than the ability to identify information in explanatory text to students with low reading intensity treated with the P2R method, namely reached an average value of 64.5. This is evidenced by sign=0.95>0.05, which mens there is no significant difference in learning outcomes in the lower group between the SQ3R method and the P2R method. The suggestion of this research is to use both learning methods in Indonesian language learning, especially in learning to identify information in explanatory text by paying attention to the reading intensity of students who tend to have high intensity and low intensity.
