Abstract

This thesis examines short stories in the Anthology of Tegal Bercerita short stories. The selection of the short story anthology is based on the following reasons: (1) the background of the story in this short story anthology which exist in Tegal area so that it is closely related to the people life in Tegal; (2) there are many local wisdoms contained in this anthology that are useful for the younger generation to learn, especially students, so that they don't forget their culture; (3) the historical aspects in this short story anthology are interesting to be analyzed as knowledge for the community and future generations so that the love of the region will grow; (4) didactic values contained in the historical aspects of this short story anthology are good for education and character development of students; and (5) in the learning historical story texts, the material in the books published by the Ministry of Education and Culture does not require the criteria to be taught. The research questions in this study are (1) what is the structure of the short stories in Tegal Bercerita short story anthology which includes themes, plot, setting, and characterizations?; (2) what historical aspects are contained in the anthology of the short stories Tegal Bercerita?; (3) what didactic values are contained in the historical stories in the short story anthology Tegal Bercerita?; and (4) how is the use of the structural studies, the the historical aspects, and didactic values of the short stories in Tegal Bercerita short story anthology as teaching materials for historical story texts in Vocational High School (SMK)? While the objectives of this study were (1) analyzing the structure of the short stories in the short story anthology Tegal Bercerita which included themes, plot, setting, and characterizations; (2) analyzing the historical aspects contained in the anthology of short stories Tegal Bercerita; (3) analyzing the didactic values contained in anthology of short stories Tegal Bercerita; and (4) describe the use of the structural studies, the historical aspects, and the didactic values of the short stories in the short story anthology Tegal Bercerita as teaching materials for historical story texts at Vocational School (SMK). This research method is a qualitative research method. The approach used in this study is a structural semiotic approach. The data in this study are parts of text in the form of sentences or paragraphs that are thought to contain intrinsic elements (structures), historical aspects, and didactic values. The data source of this research is texts from the short story anthology Tegal Bercerita published by viii the Office of Archives and Library of Tegal City in 2017 which consists of fifteen short stories. The data was collected by using heuristic reading with the observation and note technique. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique uses hermeneutic reading by means of analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the structure of the short stories in the anthology of the short stories Tegal Bercerita shows the integration between the elements. The cohesion and correlation elements which include the theme, plot, setting, and characterization form the totality of the overall structure of each short story. The historical aspects contained in the short story anthology Tegal Bercerita include places, events, and characters that are part of the story which relates to the past. Didactic values which include cultural, moral, religious, and social values are contained in the short stories, although sometimes a short story does not contain the four values at once. These short stories can be used as an alternative teaching material other than the text presented in the book from the Ministry of Education and Culture. It can be concluded that the study of the structure, historical aspects, and didactic values of the short stories in the short story anthology Tegal Bercerita can be used as teaching materials for historical story texts in Vocational High School (SMK). The suggestion from this research is that need develop more the study about short stories in Tegal Bercerita for the benefit of teaching literature in Vocational High School (SMK
