Abstract

Rumah Uya Trans7, a talk show in television, is one of the programs that cause polemic to its viewers. Some people find this program interesting to watch. Others consider this program to be inappropriate and improper. People consider the program as humiliating and over exploiting family problems and disgraces. It also uses rude, impolite, and uneducated languages. Of all the stated above, the researcher conducted this research on impoliteness and types of speech in Rumah Uya Trans7 program. The purpose of this study was to describe the types and impoliteness of speech used in the talk shows. In addition, this study aimed to describe the implicature of conversations arising from violations of the principle of conversation and politeness. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data was collected by deep listening method. It was by listening to the speech used in the program. The technique was an SLBC technique (deep listening without involving to conversation). In this case, researcher observed the data in the form of speech and totally uninvolved to the conversation. At the same time, the recording and note-taking techniques were also used. The findings of this study were the types of the utterances in the form of locus, illocution, perlocution, direct and indirect, literal, vernacular, and ceremonial. Speeches that did not adhere to politeness were in the form of violations of the maxim of tact, approbation, generosity, agreement, and sympathy. The implicature of the conversation were found in the form of violations of maxim of quantity and maxim of manner. The recommendation of this research was to develop similar deeper research which focused to politeness principles related to television media.
