Abstract

Language skill should be mastered well by children. In their development process, children apply their owned cognitive skills to understand the concepts contained in the uttered utterances. It deals with children’s skills to transform the concepts in their minds into the language of symbols according to the grammatical rules. This research aims to 1) identify and analyze the expressive and receptive language skills of 5-6 years old children at Sarimulyo PGRI Kindergarten, 2) describe and analyze the symbolic method effectiveness assisted by theme-based puppets to teach expressive language skills of 5-6 years old children at Sarimulyo PGRI Kindergarten Winong-Pati, 3) describe and analyze the symbolic method effectiveness assisted by theme-based puppets to teach receptive language skills of 5-6 years old children at Sarimulyo PGRI Kindergarten Winong-Pati., and 4) hypothesize and analyze the symbolic method influences assisted by profession cartoon-based puppets to teach expressive and receptive language skills of 5-6 years old children at Sarimulyo PGRI Kindergarten, Winong-Pati. This research applies a pretest-posttest control group design. The applied method is experimental. The data collection techniques were observation sheets of the expressive and receptive language skills with 1-4 liker scale. The hypothesis test uses the Wilcoxon test and the Mann Whitney test. The hypothesis analysis of Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney tests show that the symbolic modelling assisted by profession�cartoon puppet is effective to improve the students’ learning outcomes. It was found in the students taught by the symbolic modelling method assisted by profession-cartoon puppet.
