Abstract

Character education can be implemented in thematic learning. Thematic learning in one week is only 24 hours of learning, while the character value consists of 18 values and each school has a different vision and mission, characteristics and goals, so it needs to be studied more in the form of implementation in Islamic, Christian and state-based schools. The research aims to describe the implementation of character education in thematic learning in fourth grade elementary schools, to describe schools and the solutions provided by teachers in the implementation of character education in thematic learning in grade IV elementary schools and to analyze the character of fourth grade students in their daily life at school. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data collection technique used purposive sampling technique. The research subjects were SD Islam Al Madina, SDN Petompon 01 and SD Marsudirini. Data collection techniques using in-depth interviews, observation and documentation study. The data validation technique used source triangulation and method triangulation. The results showed that (1) character education in thematic learning in grade IV SD Islam Al Madina, SDN Petompon 01 and SD Marsudirini are all implemented by integrating character values in three stages, namely the planning, implementation and evaluation stages. Each stage of the three schools has different activities and instills different character values, adjusted to the characteristics, vision, mission and goals of each school. (2) The obstacles experienced by the three primary schools were related to the facilities and infrastructure, the condition of the students, the teacher's experience in teaching in the classroom and the lack of good communication between the school and the parents of the students. The solution is to make good use of the facilities and infrastructure, pay more attention to students who need guidance, make the best use of their time, and hold regular meetings with parents. (3) The character values seen in students at SD Islam Al Madina, SDN Petompon 01 and SD Marsudirini are in accordance with the emphasis on character values carried out in each school, which are based on the vision and mission, characteristics, goals of each school and adjusted to the material being taught. Suggestions from this research are the cooperation of the principal, teachers, students, government and parents to support and develop the implementation of character education in thematic learning in grade IV elementary schools, so it can maximize the process of implementing character education and the character of students is getting better.
