Abstract

The results of learning cognitive and critical thinking skills of elementary school students are still less than optimal. The learning process carried out by teachers, especially science teachers, shows that students are not used to being trained to actively think critically. Besides, the learning process still uses a conventional model with lectures, questions and answers, taking notes, listening, and giving assignments. Teachers still use the lecture method by cramming various science concepts with the system of listening, taking notes, and memorizing them. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the PBL model with mind mapping on students' conceptual understanding, to analyze the differences in the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model using Quizizz evaluation with conventional learning on critical thinking skills and student cognitive learning outcomes in Elementary Science learning. The method used in this research is a descriptive quantitative experimental method in the form of Quasy Experimental Design. The population in this study were all fifth-grade students at SDIT Al-Madina Semarang City. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling, with the research sample being 27 students in class V A and 27 students in class V C. The data collection technique used was a test technique consisting of a cognitive learning outcome test and a critical thinking ability test and non-test in the form of interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique in this study is to use the effect test and the average difference. The influence test aims to see the effect of the PBL model using Quizizz evaluation on critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes of students in elementary science learners. The average difference test aims to determine the differences in PBL models by using Quizizz evaluation and conventional learning on critical thinking skills and student cognitive learning outcomes in elementary science learners. The results of this study indicate that there is an effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model using Quizizz evaluation and conventional learning on critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes of students in elementary school science learning. The average difference found states that there is an average difference between the classes using the PBL model using the Quizizz evaluation with conventional learning. Meanwhile, the difference between each indicator of critical thinking ability which has the highest average is the conclusion drawing indicator. This indicator gets an average score of 90%, meaning that students can conclude the problems given properly and correctly.
