Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning on students' mathematical literacy skills based on learning styles and gender and to analyze mathematical literacy skills in solving mathematical literacy problems in terms of learning styles and gender. The research method used in this study is a mixed method. The strategy used is sequential explanatory where quantitative research done first then performed a qualitative study. The population in this study were students of class V SDN 028 Pekkabata for the 2019/2020 school year. The research sample was only taken 1 class, namely students in class V Melati. The results showed that Problem Based Learning was effective on students' mathematical literacy skills: (a) mathematics literacy skills of students with Problem Based Learning reached the limit completely; (b) Students' mathematical literacy skills complete classically, namely the proportion of completeness reaches 86%. Students, both male and female with visual learning styles, have mathematical literacy skills seen from the seven indicators of mathematical literacy that almost all of them master, Male students with auditory learning styles are able to master communication, respresentation, reasing and argument, devising strategies for solving problem, using symbolic, formal and technical language and operation and mathematic tools well, female students with auditory learning styles are able to master communication, mathemathising, respresentation, devising strategies for solving problem, using symbolic, formal and technical language and operation and mathematic tools, male students with kinesthetic learning styles have been able to master communication, mathemathising and devising strategies for solving problem well, female students with kinesthetic learning styles have been able to master communication, mathemathising well.
