Abstract

Education aims to improve the quality of human resources. In an effort to improve the quality of educational resources, teachers are a component of human resources that must be nurtured and developed continuously. The potential of the teacher's resources needs to continue to grow and develop in order to be able to function optimally. Efforts to improve the quality of learning must be carried out continuously, because the quality of learning is dynamic. The influence of teachers on the quality of learning is very large; the problem of teacher performance must be resolved in a planned manner by taking into account the factors that can influence it such as academic supervision, school principal leadership and work motivation. This study aimed to determine the effect of academic supervision and leadership of school principals on teacher performance through work motivation in Public Elementary School Tasifeto Barat Belu District, East Nusa Tenggara. The population of the study was 148 Public Elementary School teachers in the West Tasifeto district of Belu Regency in NTT and the research sample of 75 teachers was taken using Proportional Cluster Random Sampling Techniques from 12 schools. The data collection techniques are through questionnaires given directly to respondents, after testing the validity and reliability. In accordance with the objectives of the study and the nature of the problem under study, this study was quantitative. This research is also the Explanatory research that proved the casual relationship between independent variables, namely academic supervision, school principal leadership, and intervening variables, namely work motivation, and dependent variables, namely teacher performance. The conclusion of this research was: The results of this study indicated that the academic supervision and leadership of the headmaster contributed quite a lot to work motivation and teacher performance. The contribution of academic supervision and leadership principals to teachers' work motivation was 71.00% while the remaining 29.00% of the teacher's work motivation variance was influenced by factors outside the academic supervision and leadership of the principal, while the amount of contribution given by work motivation, academic supervision and headmaster's leadership variables on teacher performance is 75.40% while the remaining 24.60% teacher performance variance is influenced by other factors outside of work motivation, academic supervision and headmaster's leadership.
