Abstract

This research is based on the still not optimal implementation of character education in schools. The research aims to analyze (1) planning, (2) actuating, (3) controlling and (4) effectiveness of character education management at Daar en Nisa Islamic Junior High School. This study used a mixed method approach using concurrent embedded strategy with qualitative method as the primary method. Data were collected from participant interviews, document analysis, observations and questionnaires. The data validity technique used the triangulation technique for examining the various sources. The results of the study revealed: the planning character education at Daar en Nisa Islamic Junior High School based on vision and mission, program activities, policy design and socialization of character education. The actuating of Islamic values-based character education implemented through classroom-based, school-based and community-based activities. Class�based character education implemented by integrating character education in all subjects. Schooling culture-based character education implemented through routine activities, spontaneous activities, teacher modeling and school conditioning. The character values implemented in the Daar en Nisa Islamic Junior High School include the main values of the nation's character determined by the government, namely religious (faith and piety to God Almighty, tolerance and love of the environment), nationalists; independent (discipline, hard work, responsibility and creative); mutual cooperation (cooperation and solidarity), and integrity with (honest and polite). The controlling step of character education program implemented together by the staff of student affairs, supervisors of OSIS and ROHIS, and homeroom teacher through a system points that were handled gradually from the homeroom teacher to the principal. The effectiveness of character education management based on the implementation of the Strengthening Character Education program at Daar en Nisa Islamic Junior High School was effective with the effectiveness level of 76% by detailed planning of 78% (effective), actuating of 72% (effective) and controlling of 75% (effective).
