Abstract

The blasphemy allegation case by the Governor of Jakarta was a magnet to the public's attention. Almost entire mass media in the world reported the development of this case in many certain ways. This research aims to analyze microstructural discourse analysis at The Jakarta Post (JP). It uses van Dijk’s CDA model as the method. The model consists of structures, socio-cognitive, and social context dimensions. However, this research was only on the structural dimension because the researcher wanted to avoid deeper involvement in the political context and delayed the analysis of socio-cognitive and social context dimensions. So far The Jakarta Post (JP) is regarded as unquestionably credible news media. In reporting Ahok's blasphemy case, they attempted to show objectivity and neutrality. However, van Dijk’s CDA proved that there was a position that was taken by The Jakarta Post (JP) and certain construction of meaning through the choice of words, sentence, and paragraph, as well as the photo.
