Abstract

Based on the preliminary interview with MA Al-Asror’s English teacher, since Bahasa Indonesia does not have a tenses pattern, the students are having difficulties changing the tenses from active sentences to passive sentences. This quasiexperimental study was conducted to discover the effectiveness of Tea Party strategy to improve eleventh-grade students of MA Al-Asror Semarang passive voice mastery in explanation text. The experimental class was taught using the Tea Party strategy, whereas the control class was taught using a conventional method. There were four meetings conducted online to do the treatments using Google Meet. The data was gathered through pre-test and post-test and computed using Independent Sample t-test. The result shows that the t-value (4.619) was higher than the t-table (1.68). Additionally, the Sig. (2-tailed) was 0. Thus, it is summarized that there is a significant difference between the experimental and control classes on post-test achievement after getting treatments. Most of the students agree that the Tea Party strategy helps them to comprehend passive voice easily. The result signifies that the Tea Party was sufficient to enhance students’ passive voice mastery in explanation text.
