Abstract

Google Classroom is a free application designed to help students and teachers communicate, collaborate, organize, manage the assignment, and paperless. Perception is how something is regarded, understood, or interpreted. This research was aimed to find out students' perception towards Google Classroom in online learning for 8th grade of SMP N 2 Sluke. Web-based learning is used nowadays as another option for face to face education. E-learning is a learning process that is done by using utilizing technology. According to Wahono (2008), there are two types of communications. They are synchronous e-learning and asynchronous e-learning, according to Harjanto & Sumarni (2019). Google Classroom serves teachers to create and post materials (pictures, videos, link), invite students, assign students, conduct quiz, and manage administrative needs. The benefit of Google Classroom was helping teachers save time, easy to use, flexible, collection of the students' assignments in paperless, and mobile-friendly. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. This research took at SMP N 2 Sluke and the location at Desa Bendo, Sluke, Rembang. This school consist of 18 teachers. There are two classes at eighth-grade, A class and B class. This study's primary subject was VIII A grade students of SMP N 2 Sluke who were in the first semester by the academic years of 2020/2021. This research involved 30 students. The school was chosen because the researcher wanted to know the students' perception when using Google Classroom while it was far from the city. The study was conducted from 12-18 August 2020. In the data collection process, this research used questionnaires and interview forms administrated using voice-note on WhatsApp. The questions of the Questionnaire and Interview used the Indonesian Language. The Questionnaire consists of 20 questions and five questions for the Interview. The results showed that most of the students agreed that using Google Classroom made them more enthusiastic about learning and enjoyed the learning process. In addition, Google Classroom makes commands easier to understand, easy to use, allows them to take exams whenever they want, takes them to a new era, can increase their productivity on exams, is flexible, and saves time. However, problems such as when you are not connected to the internet, battery problems, and technical errors usually occur while carrying out the test. Not only that, two students admitted that they did not have money to buy internet data. Because learning to use Google Classroom requires a lot of internet data, they say they sometimes borrow friends' cellphones or ask their friends for internet data tethering. It is better if teachers do not use Google Classroom too often because some students feel bored and should provide input after giving assignments or exams.
