Abstract

Item analysis is a stage that must be taken to determine the degree of the quality of the test items. This research was aimed to find out the items quality of teacher-made English final semester test for 7th grade of SMP N 1 Ungaran based on Threeparameter Logistic Model (3PL) of Item Response Theory (IRT). There are 3 main parameters that could be analyzed by using 3PL of IRT, those include: (a) item difficulty (bi), (b) item discrimination (ai) and (c) guessing probability/pseudo-guessing (ci). I applied the quantitative descriptive method and the quantitative item analysis was done to describe the quality of the test items. A computer software named BILOGMG was used in this study to analyze the test items. The result of the study showed that based on the Item Difficulty (bi) parameter of IRT, 37 items (74%) were categorized as moderate items, 12 items (24%) were categorized as easy items, and 1 item (2%) was categorized as difficult item. Based on the Item Discrimination (ai) parameter of IRT, 50 (100%) items are considered as items with good item discrimination. Based on Guessing Probability/Pseudoguessing (ci), 25 (50%) items are categorized as items with good guessing probability and the other 25 (50%) are categorized as items with poor guessing probability. Based on the findings of the research, it can be suggested that the test makers, in this case the teachers, should conduct an item analysis in the process of developing a test and use a computer software (BILOG-MG) in order to produce reliable test items with good parameters based on the 3-Parameter Logistic Model of Item Response Theory.
