Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the quality of multiple-choice items in midterm test of SMP N 18 Semarang. The subject of this study was test maker of SMP N 18 Semarang. This study observed the multiple-choice items made by the teacher, key answer and students’ answer sheet of seventh graders in SMP N 18 Semarang in academic year 2019/2020 especially in VII A. The focus of the study is item analysis of multiple-choice which consists of item facility, item discrimination, distractor efficiency, and arrangement of multiple–choice item in midterm test. This study used qualitative case study. The data collection methods in this study used document analysis and interview. The result of this study were (1) there were imbalance of item facility (12 appropriate items, 1 difficult item, and 27 easy items in the midterm test); (2) there were poor item discrimination (10 questions were very good, 6 questions were good, 4 questions were poor and 20 questions were very poor); (3) there were some distractors appear to be less efficient and they have not attracted any participant and sometimes only got one response, (4) overall of arrangement in multiple-choice items in the midterm test were good enough. In conclusion, most of item analysis in the midterm test of SMP N 18 Semarang were poor. It means the midterm test in seven grade was less appropriate to be tested in the upcoming test because it must be revised or eliminated.
