Abstract

This research focused on analysing the influence of extroversion and introversion personality towards the fourth graders students speaking ability in Universitas Negeri Semarang. It’s been considered that even in similar environments, students from the identical or similar information and skill have a giant difference in how they absorb and reach a proficiency during a language. Obviously introversion and extroversion plays a role in acquiring language skills, but there must be differences between introvert and extrovert in learning acquisition, it can be how they learn it, how they motivate themselves, how they practice it, how confident they're once they are speaking in English, and during this study the author would love to create this research so as to work out those differences. The goal of this research mostly is to decide the relationship between fluency and extroversion/introversion and furthermore the connection between fluency and the supporting reason is to see introversion and extroversion affects the second language achievement in speaking, as we know that each person has different way to achieve their goals. Descriptive qualitative was used as the method in conducting this research. This research used some techniques such as observation, interview, and questionnaire. The students' personality and their speaking ability was as the main subject of this research. The students from several classes were involved in order to get the completed data. The students were asked to be interviewed related their opinion about Personality. The students were given the questionnaire on Personality Trait Test app to determine their own personality type. The collected data were analysed based on the components inside the research instruments. The result was defined in the form of description. The result of analysis showed that referring to the result of introverts, the ones who tend to be quite and enjoyed working in their own space are still able to fluently speak and some of them perform better than extroverts as well. In addition to the result of extroverts’ test, being outgoing and friendly and enjoying bringing people together do not mean that extroverts also succeed in speaking English. One extrovert being tested got the lowest score and some others performed almost the same as other introverts. It can be concluded that Personality Trait (Introversion and Extroversion) does not significantly affect someone’s English speaking ability. It shows us that personality does not really matter on speaking learning, but probably can determent their learning pattern.
