Abstract

The objectives of this study are to find out how is the students’ performance in applying noun phrases on descriptive texts by the ninth grade students of SMP N 1 Kaliori in the academic year 2020/2021. The method of the research was qualitative research. The technique of collecting data was written test to find out the errors of the noun phrase in descriptive texts. The test was participated by 25 students of the ninth grade of SMP N 1 Kaliori. The instrument that is used by consists of an outline in applying noun phrases in descriptive texts. The errors of the noun phrases in their descriptive texts were classified and the counted to find the dominant errors. The data being described using the classification from Dulay, et al. that includes misformation, misordering, addition, and omission. The writer found that there were 303 total errors made by the students. The total errors in the student’s writing there are; 67.65% in error of misformation, 2.64% in error of misordering, 17.82% in error of addition, 9.57% in error of omission, and 2.31% in other errors. The dominant errors made by the students is error of misformation with presentation 67.65%
