Abstract

This paper presents the results of a quasi-experimental research aimed to find out whether Guessing Game technique is effective for teaching descriptive writing. There were 64 seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Sapuran participating in this research. They were categorized into two groups named experimental and control group. To make it easier to understand, the result of this study is presented in the form of statistical data. The analysis result of the research showed that the use of Guessing Game technique are more effective than using conventional method for teaching descriptive writing. The result showed that the mean scores of the experimental group pre-test and post-test increased significantly by 22.35%, from 63.75 to 78. From the t-test, it was obtained that tvalue (5.444) was higher than ttable (1.998). Then, the result from the independent t-test showed that sig 0.0002 < 0.05. Therefore, the guessing game technique is effective for teaching writing and improving students’ descriptive writing skills
