Abstract

This study aims to find out parents' views on multiculturalism, the role of parents fostering multiculturalism attitudes, multiculturalism attitudes among adolescents, and relevance between the role of parents fostering multiculturalism attitudes among adolescents and the implementation of social science education in Indonesia. The research method used was a qualitative method based on Hebert Blumer's theory of symbolic interactionism. Data collection is conducted through nonpartitioned observations, in-depth interviews, and written documentation or photographs. Data analysis techniques use interactive analysis process stages in qualitative research owned by Miles and Huberman. The results showed that parents viewed multiculturalism as important in their social processes. The role of parents fosters multiculturalism by providing flexibility and support in friendship practices, and parents' concerns about multiculturalism in life. Multiculturalism attitudes that arise among adolescents include tolerance, helping each other, upholding the principle of equality, and using dialogue to solve problems. There is the relevance between the role of parents, the attitude of multiculturalism among adolescents to implement social studies education in Indonesia.
