Abstract

Death is an aspect that cannot be separated from a human life. The notion that all creatures ever created will eventually die is a fact acknowledged by each and every member of all societies. The death of a loved one, of a parent for example, can cause suffering for the people left behind. This study aims to discover personality traits transitions that are of the effects of parental death. The objectives in this study are: 1) to find out the cause and effects of parental death to the main character in the fan fiction Jaywalkers, 2) to describe the life of the main character during his adolescence, and 3) to show the transition between the main character’s childhood to his adolescence. This study employed a class of multimethodology research, that is qualitatively driven method, in which it uses some quantitative data to emphasize the analysis, which is in the form of qualitative description, and utilizes Cattell’s trait psychology approach to analyze the data. The findings of the research showed that parental death affects Tsukishima Kei’s brother, Tsukishima Akiteru’s behaviour instead of Tsukishima Kei’s, and that it is in turn causes the behavioural changes in Kei that leads to the transitions of his personality traits. Lastly, the suggestions proposed for future research was for more research studies to be conducted that are dedicated to the study of content related topics of fan made fiction works, as this study was dedicated to.
