Abstract

The implementation of the Group Investigation learning model is by forming an experimental class into several small groups to conduct an investigation. The Group Investigation learning model is expected to train students' ability to analyze a problem by giving an argument, explaining a comparison and making a conclusion on the problem at hand. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Group Investigation learning model to the economically critical thinking ability of the X grade Social Science students of senior high school Teuku Umar Semarang. This study used an experimental method with a Quasi-experimental design. The study conducted in SMA Teuku Umar Semarang. The population of this study were 105 students of class X social science SMA Teuku Umar Semarang. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study was class X IPS 1 and X IPS 2 of SMA Teuku Umar Semarang, as many as 71 students. The techniques of collecting the data were observation, interview, documentation, and test. The techniques of analyzing the data used normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis tests. Hypothesis testing used paired sample t test and N-Gain test. The result shows that the Group Investigation learning model is effective to the critical thinking ability of the social science students in SMA Teuku Umar Semarang. The average of the final test result is 80.00 with a percentage of learning completeness as many as 83.33% and the average of the students learning activity in the experimental class as many as 69.33%, meaning that the learning activities of the students in the experimental class included the active category. The teachers of economics are expected to evaluate the learning models that have been applied in the classroom and consider the cooperative learning model of group investigation type for the materials that require higher understanding in analyzing and solving problems. Then the students, are expected to be braver in asking questions and expressing their opinions either in group or class discussions.
