Abstract

The industry of starch flour in Bendo Village, Tulung District, Klaten Regency, Central Java, Indonesia is an mainstay local industry. This industry proses produces liquid and solid wastes. Also, it could be interfered aesthetic. The main problem of waste is decreasing water quality in the surrounding environment. On the other side, in Gunungpati Subdistrict, Semarang City is famous for producing durian fruit, but so far the durian fruit only utilizes the fles fruit while the seeds and shell are thrown into waste which causes pollution of the surrounding environment. This work to study the effectiveness of the coagulant from the preparation of durian shell cellulose and glutaraldehyde for process recovery of waste liquid from flour of aren starch before flowing into the river. The result data can be used to find solutions for handling liquid waste of sugar palm starch and the problem of durian shell waste. The results showed that BOD5 and COD content in wastewater reached 570.4 and 1840 mg / L, respectively, furthermore the coagulation and flocculation process with the jar test method was obtained a decrease in BOD5 levels with SKD of 339.97 mg / L coagulant (dose of 2500 mg / L) whereas using SKD-glutaraldehyde coagulant produces 346.16 mg / L (dose of 2500 mg / L). In decreasing COD content with SKD coagulant was obtained 1096.67 mg / L (dose of 2500 mg / L) while using SKD-glutaraldehyde coagulant was obtained 1116.67 mg / L (dose of 2500 mg / L).
