Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out whether the use of Creative Story Game was effective or not to improve students’ spoken recount text for the eighth grade students of SMP N 4 Semarang in the academic year of 2018/2019. This research was a quasi-experimental research with pretest posttest nonequivalent group design as a part of quasi experimental research design. Test in the form of oral test was used in this research as the instrument for collecting the data. This research consisted of two groups; experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught by using creative story game. While the control group was taught by using dsicussion technique. The population of this research was the second grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Semarang in the academic year 2018/2019 which consisted of 288 students. In this research, the researcher chose two classes as samples that consisted of 36 students in each class. That was VIII G as the experimental class and VIII H as the control class. The samples in this research were choosen by purposive sampling as a part of nonprobability sampling technique. The results showed that the average students’ post-test score in the experimental class (71.71) was higher than students’ post-test score in the control class (68.24). The Sig. (2 tailed) in the independent sample t-test was (0.04) was less than 0.05 and the result of tvalue (2.099) was higher than ttable (1.668) for ɑ = 5% and df = 66. It means that there was significance influence of using Creative Story game towards students’ spoken recount text. As a result, the researcher could draw a conclusion that the use of creative story game is effective to improve students’ spoken recount text in the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Semarang in the academic year of 2018/2019.
