Abstract

Biomass gasificationpresentshighlyinterestingpossibilitiesforexpandingtheutilizationofbiomassas power generationusinginternalcombustionenginesorturbines.However,theneedtoreducethetarin the producergasisveryimportant.Thesuccessfulapplicationofproducergasdependsnotonlyonthe quantity oftar,butalsoonitspropertiesandcompositions,whichisassociatedwiththedew-pointof tar components.Class5,4,and2tarbecomeamajorcauseofcondensationwhichcanfoultheengines and turbines.Hence,theselectivityoftartreatmentmethodtoremoveorconvertclass5,4,and2taris a challengeinproducergasutilization.Thisreviewwasconductedtopresenttherecentstudiesintar treatment frombiomassgasification.Thenewtechnologieswiththeirstrengthsandtheweaknessesin term oftarreductionarediscussed.
