Abstract

Information from the observation in SMP 8 Pati was obtained that the process of learning in natural science subject is less developing in problem-solving capability and also less in increasing student’s scientific attitude. Based on that information, it is required the existence of a model of learning that can foster the ability of problem solving and scientific attitude of the students. One of the models that can be used namely Problem Based Learning . This research was conducted in SMP 8 Patiis aiming to find out the influence of the Problem Based Learning theme switching and heat against the ability of problem solving and scientific attitude of the students with great influence. The design of this research is quasiexperimental design with nonequivalent control group design. The sample in this research is the students of class VII A (experimental class) and VII B (control class) taken by purposive sampling technique. The data collection method used is observation method and test method. The results showed the value of the correlation coefficient which is obtained based on post-test students’ critical thinking ability was r = 0.728. The t-test analysis results against the value of the coefficient of correlation in critical thinking ability shows t calculate = 6.58 which means that there is influence or the dependent relationship. The magnitude of the influence is shown by the determination coefficient (KD), which was acquired for 52.98%. The results of the analysis of the students’ scientific attitude observation shows the correlation coefficient was obtained 0,750. Magnitude of influence was shown by the determination coefficient (KD), which was acquired for 56.25%. The average percentage per student who gave feedback aspects of responses with both categories of 75%. It can be concluded that Problem Based Learning Heat Theme and Its Transitions take effect towards the problem-solving ability and scientific attitude of the junior high school students.
