Abstract
This result of observations obtained information that the lesson in SMP N 13 Semarang has not trained students in critical thinking. Based on this information, it is necessary that there is a learning method that can foster critical thinking skills and students' environmental caring character. One method used is learning to use PBL model audio visual assisted media. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of PBL model audio visual assisted media to the ability of critical thinking and students' environmental care characters on chemicals in life. The design of this research is quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design. The sampling technique used this research is purposive sampling based on certain purpose. The sample of this research is class VIII B (control class) and class VIII C (experimental class). Data collection methods used is test methods, questionnaires and observations. The test method was measured using a question of double-choice by reason. The questionnaire method was measured using a questionnaire consisting of 20 statements related to environmental cares. The observation method was measured using an observation sheet consisting of 7 indicators of environmental caring character. The influence of PBL model with audio visual media on critical thinking ability is seen from the result of biserial correlation analysis (r = 0.83) which means that there is influence or dependent relationship. The result of analysis from observation and questionnaire of environmental cares also showed that the correlation coefficient obtained is r = 0.964 (observation data) and r = 0.85 (questionnaire data) meaning that there is influence or dependent relationship. The highest average percentage per aspect of student responses was 87.5%. Can be concluded that PBL model assisted audio visual media the material of chemicals in life influence against critical thinking skills and environmentcaring character of students the material of chemicals in life.
