Abstract

Demarinen is one of the local diseases which is still believed by the people of Lanjan Village, Sumowono Sub-district, Semarang Regency. Society knows about the existence of demarinen disease from knowledge possessed by ancestors and passed down from generation to generation. The aims of this research are (1) to know the etiology of demarinen disease that exist in Lanjan Village's knowledge of Sumowono Sub-district Semarang Regency, (2) to know how the society of Lanjan Village, Sumowono Sub-district, Semarang Regency, treat demarinen disease. The research method used is Qualitative Research Method. The theories for analyzing this problem are Medical System Theory and Disease Etiology Concept of Foster and Anderson (2013). The location of this research was in Lanjan Village, Sumowono District, Semarang Regency. The main informants in this research were pregnant women, mothers and father of children under five years who had experienced demarinen, and village elders, while supporting informants were midwives and dukun bayi. Technique of data collection are observation, interview, and documentation. The validity of the data is done by the technique of triangulation. Data analysis, data reduction, presentation data, and verifications. The results of the research showed that (1) demarinen disease of children under five years of Lanjan village was caused by two factors, these factors are the feelings of envy possessed by the spirit in the womb to one of the children under five years between big family members and the cause of nadzar, (2) the healing process is done by ngedusi children under five years by pregnant women who are also regarded as a source of demarinen disease. Ngedusi is done according to the provisions that have been trusted by the society, so that the feeling of envy by the spirit that is in the womb can be melted or cured. Suggestion of research: (1) For the people of Lanjan Village although they believe more to the traditional medicine in the treatment of demarinen disease, modern medicine is use done to see the healing of demarinen diseases experienced by children under five years, (2) Department of Health to provide health services for people who still believe in Traditional medicine practices such as treatment for children under five who suffer from demarinen.
