Abstract
Multicultural education is an effort to instill awareness and develop a tolerant and tolerant attitude to realize the needs and ability to cooperate with all the differences. Especially in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Demak through learning that put forward the values of Islamic education also need to be developed. The purpose of this study is to explain the construction and implementation of multicultural education in Islamic schools at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Demak. This research is a qualitative research conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Demak. The research data was collected through observation, interview and documentation method. The research method used in this research is qualitative through observation, interview, and documentation. The subject of this research is education actors in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Demak (citizens of MAN Demak), namely: educators including principals, support staff and students. The main informants are educators and learners. While the supporting informants are school support personnel and guardians of learners. The result of the research shows that: (1) the construction of multicultural education in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Demak is emphasized on the internalization of value, especially by educators to learners related to Islamic education through activities inside and outside the learning, adapted to the background and characteristics of the culture of Demak, (2) the implementation of multicultural education at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Demak is reflected in the attitude and behavior of learners in the neighborhood of living through positive activities, and (3) the application of multicultural values in the Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Demak neighborhood are controlled and supported by all components ranging from employees, teachers, and guardians of students and students themselves. With these efforts, learning can be maximized well. Suggestions in this study are: (1) multicultural education which is still considered something foreign and considered one eye (for some educators and learners) and has not become a priority (important base) so Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Demak as a national educational institution strengthen because of its nature Importantly through school programs, and (2) the control function of all parties from the school, parents, and students need to be improved again in order to maximize the implementation of multicultural education.
