Abstract

Teaching vocabulary to seventh graders is not easy. Teacher needs strategy to make it interesting. Therefore, in this study the writer tries to find out whether bang bang game can be an alternative way for English teacher in order to teach vocabulary for seventh grade students. The subjects of the study were seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Karangrayung, Grobogan. VII C as the experimental group and VII B as the control group. There were 36 students in each class. In collecting the data, the writer delivered pre-test and post-test. The question in post-test was equal with the question in pre-test, there were 30 items in the test. The results of the study showed that the score of experimental group was higher than control group. The average score for pretest of experimental group was 62.963, and the average score of control group was 63.79633. The result of the post-test showed that the achievement of experimental group was higher than control group. The average score of experimental group was 87.03711 and the average score of control group was 77.68519. Based on the results of this study, it was found that bang bang game was effective for increasing the students’ vocabulary mastery. I hope this technique can be used by other teacher in teaching vocabulary.
