Abstract

One of physics subject education purposes in SMA/MA is to develop analytical thinking skill by applying physics concept and principle for explaining various natural phenomena and solving problems. Implementation of SETS-concepted PBL is an effort to develop students’ analytical thinking skill. This research aims to describe the effectiveness of implementation of SETS-concepted PBL and determine student group whose the higher analytical thinking. This research used nonequivalent control group design. The population of the research was eleventh-graders of MIPA of SMAN 1 Godong. Purposive sampling technique was conducted that grade of XI MIPA 3 was selected as the experimental class and grade of XI MIPA 5 was as the control class. The research data of analytical thinking skill was based on pretest-posttest scores. This data was analyzed by a test of analytical thinking skill average improvement that it obtained <g> = 0.8 at experimental class and <g> =0.7 at control class. Then, it was analyzed by a test of average variance and it obtained tcalculate = 2.8> ttable = 1.671 meaning that students’ analytical thinking skill in average of experimental class is higher than control class. It obtained tcalculate = 5.5> ttable = 1.68 on the average test meaning that the test score average of analytical thinking skill of experimental class is more than KKM. On the proportional test, it obtained zcalculate = 2.1> ztable = 1.64 meaning that percentage of students’ analytical thinking skill test scores of experimental class was more than 75%. Based on the research result, it can be conclude that SETS-concepted PBL is effective for developing analytical thinking skill of eleventh-graders.
