Abstract

This final project is entitled: The Use of 3D Animation Film in Teaching Writing Narrative text (An Action Research of the Eight Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Mranggen in the Academic Year of 2010/2011). The objectives of this study are to identify the students’ competency in producing narrative text and to know the improvement of the students’ ability in writing narrative text through 3D animation film. The population of the study was the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Mranggen, and the sample was 38 students. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, I designed a classroom action research which was done from September, 21st 2011 to October, 21st 2011. There were 7 meetings in this study. Before the treatments were conducted, a pretest was administered. The purpose of conducting the pre test was to find the students’ writing ability before the treatments were given. A post test was given after the treatments had been done. In doing the analysis of the data, I used criterion assessment written by Heaton (1974:153) to score the students’ writing. The result of the study showed that the students’ writing achievement was improved because the result of the post test was better than the passing grade recommended by the Department of Education and Culture, which is 65 %. The mean of the students’ result in the pre-test was 32, 15 %, the cycle 1 result was 52, 47 %, and in the cycle 2 test was 69, 05 %. Based on this study, it was found that the use of 3D Animation film is very effective to improve students’ ability in writing narrative text. Therefore teachers should always make innovative teaching such as using 3D animation film in teaching and learning process.
