Abstract

For as long as individuals have communicated with one another through the mediation of someone else, there has probably been a realisation that mediators do something more complex and more interesting than simply substitute their own words, one by one, for the originals. Primarily, this final project aims to teach a reading text for students by using translation technique. This study was carried out under the consideration that the students often encounter problems in implementing correct steps in reading text. It was an action research that used forty students of eighth graders of SMP N 1 Bulakamba-Brebes as the subject of the study. It involved VIII.E class. A test was used to gather data. The tests are pre – test, cycle1 test, cycle 2 test and post – test. Besides, the questionnaire was also given to support the data. The result of this research revealed that there was contribution of the students’ ability in reading text by using translation technique. The students’ achievement in reading text improved. It was supported by the result average of the research which shows significant improvement from the pre – test (51.9), cycle 1 test (60.7), and cycle 2 test (71.3) and the post test (97). So the result of the students’ achievement from pre –test to the post – test increased 45.1. From the findings, I can conclude that the students also considered that this kind of action was necessary for them and they expected that translation technique in reading text would be given regularly and continuously. Here, I suggest Teachers can use the results of this study will give a kind of knowledge that can be used as the bases to improving student’s in reading comprehension.
