Abstract

The objectives of this study is to reveal the form of racism occurred and spirit to struggle against racism in two poems of Amiri Baraka entitled Notes for A Speech, and Ka’ba, since those poems describe about racism deals with Black People including African as their ancestor and ethnicity. In order to achieve the objective of this study, the writer uses the theory of racism and compares it with new structuralism theory. Forms of racism are revealed in the speech include personally-mediated, internalized, and institutional racism. Some suggested struggles are to raise the awareness of racial pride and unite that Black people may also get the same rights and opportunities in all aspects of their lives. In analyzing the object of the study, there are four techniques that are conducted in finding and collecting the data. They are reading, identifying, inventorying, and the last classifying the data. The writer hopes that this study will be useful in presenting some information about Black people and racism history in America as a reference of American Studies subject.
