Abstract

This final project is aimed at investigating the impact of using one minute video to improve students’ speaking ability. The purpose of this project is to investigate whether the students who taught by using one minute video gives significant differences on their speaking ability. To achieve the purpose of the study, an experimental quantitative research was conducted. The experiment was held through pretest - posttest experimental and control group design. The population of the study was the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Kajen. The total number of sample in this study was 52 students. The data were collected through speaking test. There were some steps in doing this research. First, the population divided into two groups; experimental group and control group. The experimental group used one minute video as the media in learning spoken report text, and the control group used conventional method by using picture. Next, some treatments were given to the experimental students. To determine the significance difference between the means of the score of the experimental and control group, the writer used t-test formula. From the result of t-obtained value of post test of experimental and control group (5.152) was higher than t-critical value on the table (1.68), there is a significant difference between experimental and control group on the test. Then, it can be concluded that one minute video as a media for teaching spoken report text which was used by experimental group, makes an impact on students’ speaking ability. Based on the result of the research, there are some suggestions that would be offered. The teachers are expected to use one minute video as a medium in teaching spoken report text. Moreover, teachers should be aware of developing new strategies in teaching by using common media. Teachers have to be creative and innovative for optimum learning result.
