Abstract

The topic of this study is The Students’ Ability in Making Questions Using Question Words (WH-Questions) in the Classroom in The Eighth Year Students of SMP Roudlotus Saidiyah Semarang in the Academic Year of 2010/2011. In this study, the writer limited the discussion by finding out the answer of the question: how far the student’s ability to make questions using WH-questions especially using question word ”what”. The objective of the study is to know the level of the student’s ability, the errors that the students made, and the factors causing the students failure’s making questions using question word “what” to the eighth year students of SMP Roudlotus Saidiyah Semarang. This analysis can be used by the teacher as an evaluation to improve the method in teaching and learning activities. It was the quantitative and qualitative study. The subject of the study was the eighth year students of SMP Roudlotus Saidiyah Semarang. In this study the writer collected, classified, analysed, organized and interpreted the data. The technique which was used by the writer in collecting the data were observing and interviewing. The data were collected and writer decided whether data need to be reduced or directly displayed. The analysis of the data covered the general observation in whole of the classroom activities since the students did the test and the interviewed. After analyzing the data, the writer had conclusion that the teaching learning facilities is very important to improve the teaching learning activities.
