Abstract

This final project is about the human fear that found is in the main character of “Lord of The Rings” film. The aims of the study are to find the human fear, its causes and effects in daily life based on the main character in the movie. This research is descriptive qualitative. The sources of the data in this study are the script and the video. The data taken from the script are in the forms of phrases, sentences, dialogues, explicit sentences, and hidden meanings. While from the video the data were in the forms of mimics, music, gestures, locations, soundtrack, and pictures. The data were collected by means of preparing a table, reading, identifying, inventorying data from both script and video, classifying, selecting, and reporting them into appendices. In analyzing questions, the writer identified the data, then marked the data in Appendix C. The writer selected the data into Appendix D that were exposed and after that; explained the data, and then the answer of the question was derived. This research used psychological approach.Theories of emotion and fear are used to analyze the main character’s fear. From the data analysis the writer may conclude that 1) the trauma or past experience influenced the fear.2) separation from attachment figures provokes more fear.3) there are two effects of fear, it can be positive and negative, depend on how people try to conquer his fear or avoid his fear.
