Abstract

Considering the fact that not all people like to reads books, newspaper, or novels to learn English, there was another way to learn the language. In this era of sophisticated technology, we could use electronic facilities such as: computer, internet, radio, and television to support our learning the language. Generally, people were more interested in watching film and television than reading books. It was probably because understanding the story of a film is easier and practical than that of reading a book or novel. Film is the most important means of entertainment and education. This study used film script version to unwrap the American belief system perspective on biological parents as shown in the August Rush film. Children really need parents, especially biological parents. This film tells us about American people reacted to Lyla, Evan and Arthur. Evan suffers negative reactions because of his un-parents status. The objective of the study is to describe how American belief system perspective on biological parents is reflected in the August Rush film seen from socio-cultural point of view. This study is expected to give contribution about a biological parents in our society in the recent days. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method. First, I analyzed this film, then selected and reduced the data from the script. I tried to identify the conflicts by using the socio-cultural approach. This approach was meant to analyze and describe the causes of conflicts. Next, I classified the data based on appropriate statements of problem. Finally, I reduced and discussed the data in the form of descriptive analysis and make conclusions. The result of the study shows that American belief system perspective on biological parents is the point of view on biological parents by the freedom, religion or American society system. In the August Rush film, there are some facts related to the action of American people reacted to Lyla, Evan and Arthur. This study also shows the multiple diverse of belief systems in American people. One of them is religion and social norms that affect mental and moral consequences
