This study deals with Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension through authentic text (A Classroom Action Research at the Tenth Grade of SMAN 14 Semarang in the academic year 2010/2011). This final project is an action research. The objective of this study was to describe how the use of authentic text could improve students reading comprehension and to describe that authentic text could change the habit of the student in reading comprehension. The population of this study was grade X of SMA 14 Semarang. The number of the subject was 33 students. There were seven meetings in the research. One meeting was for the pre-test. Five meetings were for the treatments and the post test was hold in the last meeting. Before the treatment was conducted, a pre-test was given. In the pre-test, the students were asked to answer 40 multiple choice items. The students’ reading comprehension in the second cycle was considered as the post-test result. The result of this research showed that the post-test score was better than the pre-test score. The mean score of the pre-test was 68, 48 and 89, 7 in the post test. The difference between pre test and post test was 21, 22. It means that there was a difference between the students’ achievement before and after they were taught by using authentic text. Based on the result above, authentic text could be one of effective media to improve the students’ reading comprehension. This study suggested the teacher to use authentic text as one of media in teaching reading. Also to use authentic text to make students more motivated and interested to read effectively since students need enjoyable and varied learning experiences. Then it is suggested for the next writer to conduct a deeper research by developing authentic text as a media to be used in various learning skills.
