Key Words: Writing, Recount Text, Blogging The purpose of teaching English is to develop students’ mastery of the four language skills. Writing, as one of the four skills, needs more attention. Unfortunately writing skill is a complex and difficult skill for English teacher to teach. The techniques of teaching writing skill which most of English teachers use are not creatively absorbing. Blogging technique can be an alternative in teaching writing, especially for recount texts. Thus, the objective of this study is to find out the difference of the students’ recount text writing skill between those who are taught by using blogs and those who are taught by conventional method of lecturing without using blogs. In order to achieve the objective of the study, an experimental design was used. Pre-test and post-test of the equivalent groups were conducted to the population of this study, the eleventh grade students of SMK N 1 Batang in the academic year of 2011/2012. There were nine classes of the eleventh year at SMK N 1 Batang which consisted of 30 students in each classes. There were a multimedia class (MM), a banking class (PB), a computer network engineering class (TKJ), two office administration classes (AP), two accounting classes (AK) and two marketing classes (PM). The sampling technique used in this research was cluster random sampling. Thus, the number of sample was 60 students that consisted of 30 students of multimedia class (MM) as the experimental group who were taught using blogging technique and 30 students of the first accounting class (AK) as the control group who were taught using lecturing technique without blogging technique. The results of the tests of both groups were analyzed by using t-test formula to know the difference in the students’ achievement of writing of recount text between the two groups. The results showed the pre-test and post-test means of the control group were 69.73 and 72.13 respectively. On the other hand, the pre-test and post-test means of the experimental group were 69.73 and 75.2 respectively. Since the t-test (1.98) was higher than t-table (1.672), it means that there was a significant difference between the students’ recount text writing skill of those who are taught by using blog and those who are taught without using blog (by conventional method/lecturing). Furthermore, English teachers are suggested to concern better in their technique variety in teaching writing any kind of texts especially recount text.
