Abstract

Keywords:Vocabulary,ElementarySchool,MotionPictures,ActionResearch. ThisfinalprojectisabouttheuseofmotionpicturesasanaidforteachingEnglishvocabularytothefourthgrade rsofSDN01SekaranGunungpatiSemaranghisstudyisaimedto(1)findoutwhetherteachingEnglishvocabul aryusingmotionpicturesiseffectivetoimprovethestudents’achievementinlearningvocabularyand(2)desc ribethestudents’responsetowardtheuseofmotionpictures.To conducttheresearch,IadoptedanActionResearchdesign.Thesubjectofthisstudyis23students.Thereweret wocyclesinconductingthisactionresearch.Eachcyclehadfoursteps.Theywereplanning,acting,observing, andreflecting.BeforeIconductedtheresearch,thetestinstrumenthadbeentriedoutinanotherclasstofindthev alidity,reliability,itemdifficulty,anddiscriminatingpower.Ibegantheresearchbygivingapretesttothestudents. Then,theygotthetreatments.Attheendoftheresearch,Igaveaposttestandaquestionnaire. Ther esearchrevealedthatthestudents’achievementinlearningEnglishvocabularyisimproved.Itissupportedbyt hesignificantresultofthepre-test(58%),thenthepost-testcycle1(73.39%),andtheposttestcycle2( 87.48%).Thestudents’responsesduringthelessonsarealsogood.Itcanbeseenfromthequestionn aireresult.Theitemsnumber1and3areaboutthestudents’interestandmotivation.Themeansofeachitemis2. 69and2.68.Itmeansthatthestudents’interestandmotivationinlearningEnglishusingmotionpicturesarehig h.Based ontheresult,Englishteachersshouldbeabletocreatetheirowntechniquesinordertoimprovetheirstudents’in terestinfollowingthelesson.ItispossiblefortheEnglishteacherofthatschooltoapplythemotionpicturesasan alternativemediuminimprovingstudents’Englishvocabularyaievement.
