This final project is entitled: The Effectiveness of Macromedia Flash as A Medium to Improve Students’ Mastery in Reading Narrative Text in the Eight Grade of Junior High School (An Experimental Study of the Eight Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Mranggen in the Academic Year of 2009/2010). The objective of this study is the effectiveness of using macromedia flash compared to conventional teaching to improve students’ mastery in reading narrative text. The population of the study was the eight grade of SMP Negeri 1 Mranggen, and the sample was 64 students. The technique of obtaining the data was an experimental research. The post test (reading comprehension test) was used to collect the data. The data were obtained through the result of the post test. In collecting the primary data, I carried out treatment and post test both experiment and control group. First step I observed the teacher that presented the lesson by using macromedia flash in the experiment group and conventional teaching in the control group. After observed the treatment, I conducted post test for both experiment and control group. The result of the experiment research showed that the students’ reading achievement between experiment and control group has a significance difference. The average of the achievement in experiment group was 86,25 and in control group was 67,72. Based on this study, it was found that the use of macromedia flash is very effective to improve students’ mastery in reading narrative text. Therefore teacher should always make innovative teaching such as using macromedia flash in teaching and learning process.
